When one thinks of Montana, one often conjures up images of snow-capped mountains, tall pine trees, and rustic country or bluegrass music playing in the background. Vocalist and banjoist Old Sap exemplifies the “sound” of montana through his country picking and loping, melancholy melodies. A native of Chicago, Old Sap always had an affinity towards music. When he discovered the banjo he felt as though he’d found the instrument that would finally become his heart and soul. He adapted the “clawhammer'” style of playing, and soon began developing an extensive repertoire of traditional country tunes, adaptations of popular songs, and original compositions. Sap is now a fixture on the Flathead Valley music scene, and can be heard performing at the Flathead Brewery, Crush Lounge, and several other venues throughout the area.
